No puzzle falls into itself by itself. Thought and time is needed. As long as those two thoughts do not contradict each other. For then one is indeed false.

Hi Glenn,

Here’s the context:

“About this time I met with some Ranters’ books, that were put forth by some of our countrymen, which books were also highly in esteem by several old professors; some of these I read, but was not able to make any judgment about them; wherefore as I read in them, and thought upon them (seeing myself unable to judge), I would betake myself to hearty prayer in this manner…”

The footnote in my addition says, “Ranters were an English radical group prominent from 1649-54, known for the shockingly bad behavior of their members. Their anarchic actions were based on the belief that whatever was done in the Spirit was justifiable, because man was free of sin and the Law, a belief system commonly known as Antinomianism.”

Thanks for posting this quote. It reveals a God-fearing abd humble attitude in John Bunyan that we all would do wel to emulate. Do you know if he was addressing a particular doctrine in this quote?
